About Toto
The group Toto was formed in 1976 by guitarists Jeff Porcaro and David Paich (who were also well-known studio musicians working with Boz Scaggs at the time) and singer/bassist Bobby Kimball. The group's name was derived from a Latin word that translates to "all-encompassing" and was determined to explore all styles of music.
The third album from Toto, Turn Back, was a failure in 1981. However they made amends with their fourth release, Isolation, which contained two songs that were hits, including the title song and Roseanna. The album and the tour helped them become a household name all over the world.
After a gap of couple of years, Toto return with the album Fahrenheit in 1986. The album is different from the ballads that were featured on previous albums, and features some heavy rock. This album was their first to be certified platinum in North America.
During the recording process of the fifth album the group loses their manager and faces financial difficulties. They decide to record a new album and change their name an alternative producer. Joseph Williams, the son of John Williams, the legendary film composer and actress Barbara Ruick from 1950s, takes over Fergie Frederiksen as the lead vocalist. Joseph Williams is a natural frontman, and gives the band much-needed boost.

The band released Mindfields in 1999 and embarks on a massive worldwide tour. After several weeks in Europe the band travels to Japan for sold-out shows. After a brief break, Toto resumes recording and begins recording their first live album, Absolutely Live in 1993 which includes a cover of Weezer's song Hash Pipe in response to the band covering their hit Africa during their recent tour. Toto's touring band is rounded out by drummer Lenny Castro, bassist Shannon Forrest and keyboardist Shem von Schroeck.

Toto was the first album released by toto in 1978. homepage was a huge hit and catapulted toto into international fame. Since then, the group has released 14 more albums, all of which have also been a hit.
In 1984, Toto wrote their first, and to this date only, movie score for the film Dune. It was a huge project that required the entire band to be involved. The album that was released, Kingdom of Desire, was a record that also had a great success. After a world-tour, Bobby Kimball quit the group. He was replaced by Fergie Frederiksen, formerly of Le Roux. The band continued with their fifth studio album, Isolation. The album had a host of songs including "Stranger in Town".
After Isolation Toto was put on a hiatus. This gave the members of the band a chance to pursue solo projects. In 1996, the band reformed to tour and record an album. This was the first time all of the original members were on stage together for more than 10 years.
The following year, Toto toured with Ringo Starr's All Starr Band. This was the last time all of Toto's original members appeared together on stage at the same time. After that, the group broke up again. Toto came back together for a benefit concert in 2010 to raise funds for the ALS Foundation. It was the first time in 31 year that all of Toto's founding members were on stage together. In addition to the original members keyboardist Greg Tambu filled in for Paich and bassist David Hungate filled in for Shem Von Schroeck.

Toto has remained one of the most adored rock bands for over three decades, scoring huge hits like "Rosanna," "Hold The Line,"" and their 8X-platinum hit, "Africa." The group's anthemic, arena-rock style is influenced by a variety of styles that include progressive rock, world rhythms, jazz, soul, and.
The band experienced several setbacks throughout their final years, despite their acclaim. In 2002 the drummer Greg Phillinganes left the group and keyboardist David Paich took a leave of absence due to health issues. Drummer Shem von Schroeck stepped in and the band was not the same without Paich and Phillinganes. In 2008, Toto decided to take a break from touring after changing the lineup of their band and a disappointing series of releases. The group returned to the road in 2012 after the release of their album 40 Trips Around The Sun.
The album was a return to the band's top form and the tour that came with it featured sold-out shows in North America and Europe. Toto's reunion gained momentum with the return of bassist Shem Von Schroeck and guitarist Steve Lukather.
Toto's music remains the same today as it was in the 1970s and 1980s and is growing in popularity with every new generation. Their success has made them a permanent fixture of pop culture. Live performances by Toto are always filled with energy and excitement.
